Macungie, located in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, is the second oldest borough in the area. As of the 2020 census, its population was 3,257. Macungie is a suburb of Allentown and part of the Lehigh Valley metropolitan area, which had a population of 861,899 as of the 2020 census, making it the 68th most populous metropolitan area in the United States.

Peter Miller founded Millerstown in 1776, which was later incorporated as a borough on November 15, 1857, and renamed Macungie in 1875 to avoid confusion with another town named Millerstown in Perry County, Pennsylvania.

The name "Macungie" comes from "Maguntsche," a Lenape word that was used to describe the region comprising Macungie and Emmaus, Pennsylvania, as early as 1730. "Maguntsche" means either "bear swamp" or "feeding place of the bears." The borough's current seal features a bear drinking water near some cattails. The Valentine Weaver House in Macungie was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
